I followed Madam Vice President's advice today and got something sweet! The crème brûlée and strawberry shortcake donuts were so good! The crème brûlée is filled with a vanilla sweet cream inside and the strawberry shortcake tastes just like the ice cream. Both are best when warm! I also had the fried chicken sandwich with honey butter and hot sauce on a brioche bun. It was my least favorite since there wasn't much to it and the chicken was pretty small for it the be $10. Everything total was $21 not including tip. Though a bit pricey, I'd definitely stop by again for an occasional sweet treat and try their other donut options.

So. I came here almost a decade ago. It was good then and it's was as good if not even better now. The service was fast and it is a tiny hole in the wall. My single complaint is the same as a decade ago. I can get why they don't have coffee or baristas. But they do have refrigerated beverages. They could replace the bottled coke and soda with either milk(s) or canned ready to drink iced coffee. But since they didn't make those changes a decade ago I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. No worries. The donuts and chicken sandwiches are good enough!

I've had better & I've had worse! The donuts are good but could be a little more moist and perhaps... fresher? Good flavor though. We didn't try any chicken so maybe we didn't get the full experience. The service is quick but note that this is really just a counter, with just a few seats outside

Fried chicken and donuts - truly a winning combo. I've come here just to have a donut before, but I think the best strategy is to make this a lunch stop so you can experience both sides of what Astro has to offer. They had run out of chicken sandwiches by the time we showed up, so I got the chicken tenders instead. These are no grocery store chicken tenders! They are crispy and possess a considerable heft. The meat itself is tender and peels apart in an incredibly satisfying way. My donut of choice was the crème brûlée, which I highly recommend. It's a great marriage of two desserts, with the contrasting textures of fluffy donut, soft cream filling, and a crackling crust on top. All in all, a great meal in downtown DC.
